Your menu of Sikkim food for today!

Lets start with the some of the most famous dishes that you must try when you visit Sikkim—or, a Sikkimese restraunt. Your menu will probably look like this:

1. Sel roti
A traditional homemade ring-shaped rice bread, Sel Roti is sweet in taste. It is specifically prepared during Dashain and Tihar, one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals in Sikkim and Darjeeling regions. It is known as Shinghal in Kumaon.
It is made of rice flour with adding customized flavours. The semi-liquid rice flour dough is prepared by adding milk, water, cooking oil, sugar, ghee, butter, and your preference between cardamom, cloves, bananas and other flavours. The ingredients are mixed well by stirring. Once the semi liquid dough is ready, it is deep fried in boiling oil or ghee.

 2. Sha Phaley
Sha Phaley is a combination of the deep fried flavors, bread, and a whole lot of minced meat. Originally a Tibetan dish, it is quite famous in Sikkim as well. The bread or the pastry is stuffed with a mixture of ground beef, cabbage, and spices. It is then folded into semi circles and finally deep fried to perfection.

3. Dal Bhat
If you think that this menu is too inclined towards high fat food, or you prefer vegetarian food, dont worry. Sikkimese chefs got you covered.
Dal bhat is a traditional meal consisting steamed rice and a cooked lentil soup called dal. Despite being a staple food among the locals, it is famous for its flavor filled 'dal' (lentils) made with traditional spices. Bhat means "boiled rice" in the Sikkimese language.

4. Tongba

Tongba is a traditional and indigenous drink. Tongba is culturally and religiously important to the Limbu people. Offering Tongba is a symbol of respect to a guest among the Limbu people and also an important drink for special occasions and festivals.
