Foodies are Welcome. #SikkimCuisine
1. Churpie
We have been missing out on the Chhurpi or durkha, which is a traditional cheese consumed in the Himlayan regions of Sikkim, Darjeeling. And like your favourite slushie flavor, there are two varieties of chhurpi, which are: a soft variety (consumed usually as a side dish with rice) and a hard variety (chewed like a betel nut). It is known to be native to Tibetan cultural areas, spreading to Nepal and India.
2. Khapse
These slightly sweet and intensely addictive biscuits are usually eaten with tea as breakfast in Sikkim. Khapse, also spelled khabzey, are fried biscuits of flour, sugar and milk and are a specialty for Losar, the new year. Khapse is an important necessity during the Loar festival of not only the Sikkim culture, but also the East Himalayas.
3.Gundruk
And this is for my vegan friends: Yes, there is even vegan food in Sikkim! Now you got no excuse for not being able to go to this heavenland. Gundruk is a food of Nepalese origin and is one of the staple foods of Sikkim. Gundruk is a leafy dish that is completely vegan and is made out of some leaves of mustard, cabbage or radish. It is often made with a lot of water to make it a soup, but only at traditional households of Sikkim can you get the perfectly made Gundruk.Hmm well thats it for this blog. Hope you liked it!
